SEI certification programs are open to all manufacturers of safety and protective equipment. SEI believes that it is vital that its certification services be impartial and objective, uninfluenced by private interests of individuals acting for SEI. New certification programs are created based on sufficient interest from industry.

SEI is accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) in accordance with ISO/IEC 17065, Conformity assessment - Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes, and services.
All product model testing is conducted is accordance with globally-recognized product standards from organizations like ASTM International, ANSI/ANAB, the Canadian Standards Association (CSA), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the U.S. National Institute of Justice (NIJ), and the National Operating Committee on Standards and Athletic Equipment (NOCSAE).
